Louise Penny, author of nine chief inspector Armand Gamache mysteries including her latest New York Times Best Seller, How The Light Gets In, auctioned in support of the Yamaska Literacy Council, a ‘bespoke’ fragrance created especially for her by Floris of London, the oldest perfumer in England.

Penny, an honorary patron of the Yamaska Literacy Council, believes in the importance of literacy and power of the printed word. “Eau de Gamache is an essence of the character. A character who loves reading and books and for whom literacy and happiness are one and the same. Chief Inspector Armand Gamache would not be the man he is without his love of reading. And I would not be a writer, without my own love of reading. Literacy goes far beyond the practical issues of daily life, and touches our emotions, our joy, our imaginations. It isn’t just a tool, it’s a pleasure. And it was a great pleasure to donate for auction the very first issue of this unique cologne, Eau de Gamache. Vive Gamache. Vive literacy!” says Louise Penny.
